OK – I confess I was doubtful about what we’d do here – especially since we had to move up our departure from Sitka by 2 days. Boy was I wrong! Once we got the RV set up, we took off for Mendenhall Glacier, which is only 15 minutes away. Check out the nifty pictures we took at Mendenhall National Park.
In addition to main viewing areas, there are many trails to explore. We took one labeled “Not Developed” that was listed as a 45 minute hike to the edge of the Nutmeg falls and as close as you could get to the glacier. In the last 100 yards, we suddenly were climbing rocks from a recent avalanche to get to the falls!
We had watched a movie about the glacier and Dave wanted to share all the information he learned with our friends…[flickr video=3611560841]
We got home in time, to hear about a free big band concert downtown at the marina park and off we went for a 2 hour hour concert. Great music, warm, sunny evening against a mountain backdrop!
