Akk – 1st Traffic Since Juneau!

The Alaska Highway We continued on our way to Fairbanks via Tok and an overnight in Delta Junction, a small community at the Northern end of the Alaska Highway. Wonder of wonders – the Smith RV park offered free car washes – and we spent over an hour washing the 1/4 to 1/2 inch of caked mud from the RV and the Scion! We also enjoyed another gorgeous cloud free morning the next day and traveled a bit of the Richardson Highway along the Nenana River and the Alaskan Mountain Range before continuing our Northern trek.

Fairbanks is a big city town – the 2nd largest in Alaska with a population of 30,500 and almost 100,000 in the metro area. Dave was able to get his Home Depot fix and, more importantly, his repaired camera lens arrived from Nikon! We decided to change our itinerary and head directly to Denali so that we’ll miss the 4th of July crowds at the park. We’ll return to Fairbanks to pick up our mail, see a museum or two, ride the Riverboat and then head to Talkeetna to hunker down for the 4th.
