We took Rob’s advice and visited the Wildlife Center – about 25 miles north on the Haines Highway. We also left early enough to take a short road trip on the Highway, cross the border to explore the tundra at the pass. Check out the pics of the moose we saw that morning in the album titled 06-12 Haines at right.
Steve and Mario, have each been making documentary animal films for over 20 years. They also trainings animals to work in mainstream films as well. Very young wild animals, such as “Kitty” the Grizzly, who are motherless are given to them to care for by community members. They work closely with the animals so that the young imprint on humans at an early age. Many of the animals are not only used for filming, but also a way for scientist to collect data on some of the more rare species – such as the two wolverines they are working with. Check below for a video about the wolverine.
As photographers, Steve and Mario instinctively understand how to create a situation to show the animals at their best light, while sharing lots of information about how their habitat and how they hunt. They both have wonderful stories they add about some of their filming experiences, too! Our photos of the animals are in the album titled 06-12 Wildlife Center at right.
