You Never Walk Alone

Once again, our rear window is filled with a lovely Pacific Ocean view, and it drew us out for a walk on the beach after dinner.

Digression: For dinner Susi made a delectable Thai mango-peanut salad with some smoked salmon and a crabcake. mmmmmmm! Ok. Ok. Susi made me promise not to write any more about our gastronomical delights. Ha! Ha! Crossed my fingers!

Hans & Carol Of course we we not the only ones drawn to the water. Hans and Carol live on the eastern edge of Victoria Island where they relocated from Alberta in their semi-retirement. Both are academics — he a biologist and she an English professor — with whom we enjoyed a lovely walk and talk.

Starfish & anemone in tidal pool How else would I have known where to find the starfish in the tidal pool? It used to be that scuba gear was needed to see a lovely specimen like this. Now we know where to look as the tide rolls out.

How else would we have learned about the women’s viewpoint in oral history. Carol’s research has taken her throughout North America and on numerous journeys through Alaska collecting and cataloging stories of strong, dynamic women.

The joys of getting away from the everyday pop out in such subtle ways!
