Today, we met a beaming homebuyer Carol, who will be completing her final walk-through this afternoon. She expects to move into her MEMA cottage next week and is very excited. (See the essay on governmental help for more info on MEMA). Carol lived about 2 blocks from the water and has chosen to accept a house that is at least 7 miles inland so that she will never have a similar experience and can afford the insurance for her house.

When Carol was able to return to her property (2 weeks after Katrina landed) nothing was there…no wood from the structure…no furniture…no appliances…no mementos…no clothes…only a few broken trees remained.
